Stray,
I'd tell you to do a search, because this has been talked about, but since the search function is currently not working.....

*stray,I'll tell you how I've seen it done out here.First, Duroc board is applied right over the existing plam countertop with construction adhesive and screws. The tile is then attached to the duroc board with thinset. Lately I've bveen called upon by one tile setter in particular to mill up some hardwood drop edge to apply to the countertop perimeter as it is a less expensive alternative to tileing the edge with costly edge tile. The hardwood edge also gives a nice look with different countertop tiles.
*md,Have made up nosing with a groove plowed out in the middle of the face. Groove width a little wider that "fiddlestick" tile (the half by 2.5 detail tile). Set the fiddlesticks and grout between. Nice look with the inlay in the wood. No problem with the grout staying put. That surprised me. Try it, you might like it.
*Thanks Cal,I'm gonna try it.

Thanks for the ideas. I like the ideas of the hardwood edging, but have already bought the tile edges for this job...will try on the next one though. I had planned to do thinset on the laminate with 1/2" hardibacker screwed through, but the adhesive sounds quicker and probably bond better with the laminate anyway.
