My house used to have a 1 car garage attached to it which has been converted into additional living space. However, it still has a very ugly concrete ramp in front of it, which I would like to convert into a brick patio and steps. If I simply cover the ramp with bricks the top would be uncomfortably close to the top of the foundation. Therefore, I would like to take at least 4-5″ off the ramp before covering it with brick.
My first thought was to simply bust it up, but at its thinnest point it is over 1′ thick and close to 2′ at its thickest. My next thought is to make a series of parallel cuts and use a hammer and chisel to break these out. The deepest cut would have to be about 4-5″ at the top of the ramp, with the other cuts progressively shallower since the ramp slopes down. The length of the ramp is ~11 feet and I figure the cuts would have to span a width of 12-15″.
Is this feasible? If so, what would be the best equipment to rent and how much concrete should I expect out of a diamond blade? – I know this depends on many factors, but I have absolutely no idea if this would be a 1 blade project or 10 blades (“sorry honey…”).
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
