I am interested on feedback on rotary lasers / laser chalk lines etc. I am currently having a house built, but I plan to install a lot of shelving, cabinetry, trim work, etc. myself. It looks like a laser would be a handy gadget to have, but I would like to hear opinions on the various types and models.
Has anybody read any tool reviews on them? (I haven’t been able to find anything in Fine Homebuilding).
I would like to keep in the $200 – $500 range as I don’t want the wife to blow a fuse when she sees the bill 🙂
Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Kerry,
I think you'll have a difficult time finding a "good" rotary/chalkline chalk line tripod for under $1,500. I had a non-self-lon-self-levelingaser, for which I paid about $500. Every time it was even slightly bumped I had to take the time to reset it. I finally sold it and bought a Spectra-Precision model 1452 self leveling laser. It puts out a stronger, more visible beam, it comes with an accurate receiver/remote control, has rechargeable batteries, and its accurate to within 1/32-inch in small spaces (which I like when installing cabinets).
Search under "laser" in Fine Homebuilding's onlinHome building'ston-lineand reviews of these great, time-saving tools.
*Kerry,The rotary lazer we use is a self leveling tool, with sensor, but no visible light. It was around $800. For all but the largest kitchens we often just use an eight foot Stabila level. A spirit level is a whole lot cheaper, accurate and fast. Tool Crib aka Amazon.com have a broad selection of levels.Lazer levels are cool gadgets but there are a lot of tools I'd want first.Chase
*Kerry ..go to ...go down about ten threads to..PLS 5 Laser, Anyone using one?...and read that...Mike

Kerry,
I use the Robo Laser from Toolz.
Excellent tool. plus or minus 1/8" in 100 feet level.
Cost $329.00. Check Tool Crib online.
You use a remote to move laser as it projects beam on a surface. One man operation. EASY TO USE.
