Finishing out a condo that has 11 ft from floor to underside of floor above (all concrete). HO wants a “floating cloud” over the dinign table. Think of a sheetrock ceiling panel about 4 ft x 10 ft x 4-5 inches thick, suspended about 9 ft over the table.
One thought is to frame it with metal studs like a wall section, and rock top, bottom, and all edges. Then hang it from stainless cables.
Secoind thought is to use mini bar joists, maybe 16″ oc x 10 ft long, screw a sheet of 3/4 ply to the underside, then hat channel, then sheetrock. Same idea as option 1, but a little more industrial.
Am I right in thinking that stage crews use small scale bar joists to hang the lighting and scene backdrops? I’m hoping for something that might be in chrome or stainless finish.

MDF or Plywood. 4' x 10' x 3/4" sheets
1" x 4" plywood strips glued on edge on panel top for stiffening.
Threaded rod from ceiling aligned with threaded rod from panel. Turn buckle used to level.
Supports are far enough away from edge so as not to be visable from 12' away.
Option 2 (From underside to ceiling):
GWB, 3 1/2" metal studs (on edge), 4x8x 3/4 plywood, threaded rod as noted above.
