A couple quick questions concerning sliders. I have played around with most of the 10″ scms and I really like the handles on the DW and the bosch and the new Hitachi. Has anybody here decided to get say the Makita with the upright handle and then “learned” how to like it. I just don’t like the feel of the upright handle and I’m afraid to buy a saw based on price and then never really feel comfy with it. I’m looking at the new 10″ bosch with up-front controls. Sweet looking saw with a price tag to match. Anyone here put one to hard use yet. I know the makita can be had for less, but back to the handle thing. See my delima.
thanks dave

I like the horizontal handle on the DW and similar saws as opposed to the Makita handle. Used a makita on a job site once for 2 months and never got as comfortable with it as the horizontal handle.
Also...never liked the safety catch on the Makita, sorry, but I feel that way and I'm sure it'll get some discussion about safety going here.BTW, I feel the same about the safety on my Ridgid cordless circular saw as well.
If you aren't one of the one's I'm talking about,you shouldn't have any complaints....
I have a Hitach
Forgot about the handle issue shortly after I bought it. Havent thought about it since. The on the Bosch it seemed to be a cool feature, but no issue.

thanks guys,
I went down to the local equipement place and played with saws for two hours. they were very accomidating and let me move them to a location in the showroom that was on a low table. This allowed me to see what it might be like in my own shop as my benches are lower. After all was said and done I got to the point that I could live with the other handles, but it was always in the back of my mind. thanks for the input

So Dave,
Did you end up buying a saw?
What did you get, and have you made any test passes with it yet?

I have a Bosch 10" with the verti handle: I got used to it, I have used horizontals since then - wish I had gotten the horiz. If it's only for once in awhile verti is o.k., but for long extended use, would recommend the horiz.
I reccomend the Dewalt.
Thats part of the reason I got it and have not been disapointed except for one thing ;
Its very heavy! It stays bolted up in a shop fence . I haul a Dewalt chop saw in 12 inch. It takes an important reason for the slider to leave the shop. I normally takes things to it.
If there was one as good that was lighter I would be tempted.
What are the difference of prices you were talking about?
