Yesterday, I was flipping channels trying to make the day go by. This past month has resulted in my being sick to my being injured (damn knee), so I sit a lot and do nothing to aggravate my problem(s).
Anyways, a commercial on HGTV or DIY was advertising this new gimmick/tool for laying perfect mortar for brick-laying. Its a set of plastic pieces that basically made putting down the same amount of mortar in a neat fashion easy enough for the DIYer, which is how they were marketing it.
Now, I have zero tile/mortar/etc. experience and have always been resistent in learning because of what seems like a mess that could have a potential for an even larger mess once started, lol But this gimmick honestly got me to ask: why the heck wasn’t this thing made 100 years ago?
Most of the bricklaying around me is done by Latinos (labor intensive), and the quality is a joke (come see my home) in terms of clean lines vs. a mess. Still, they were marketing the three-piece set for $50, but you and I know it took about $2 to manufacture. Still, I can say I’d probably the first one to buy & try once it hits HD/Lowes and retails for $35.
