A question for the framers out there. I just bought a house, part of which is framed as an octagon, 30′ across the flats.
The octagon is divided by a central wall across the flats. One half of the interior is open, floor to 13′ peak, with no joists or collar ties .The other half is divided into 2 small triangular bedrooms, and a central bathroom.
I need to enlarge one of the bedrooms.Am I right in thinking that just the central part of the wall, under the peak, is the bearing part, or is the whole wall needed to tie the structure together ?
Any advice would be helpful.

I had to spend several minutes thiunking aboiut the octogonal structures I have seen and the ways it could be framed. The answer is maybe.
you will need someone on site with experience in structure and load paths.
