An octagonal timberframe is certainly possible. If you want to e-mail me, I can give you the name of a timberframe operation that can do it, located in SE Pennsylvania. Of, course knowing where you are located will help us in assisting you.
*Hi HENRI,One of the dream homes floating around my brain is an octagonal log home with an open design and a massive tree in the center. In the upper part of the tree would be a crows nest loft. The roof would be very steep to create a very high peak. Just some ideas floating around. An Octogon is somewhat self explanitory just pick the size and the roof pitch. Now just design a floor plan, and maybe an entry porch added on to the octagon.A word of warning, angles other than right angles = time and money.joe d
*Henri,Try a web search: I just tried a google search, turned up 6 hits, including http://museum.cl.msu.edu/barn/guestbook/guestbook.htmlFWIW, Octagon barns (and houses) were a hot topic in the late 19th century (or so) and there are a number of them still around; I used to live near one in VT. I suspect they were all (mainly?) timberframe.Bob
*I doubt that it is quite what you have in mind, but the Air-Lock log site has a log house based on (insired by?) the Southwest Native American house at their site at: http://air-lock.com/plans.htm You also might want to check out the slightly strange elevated multi-sided timber frame house at: http://www.topsider.com/ Somewhere in my Timber Frame magazines, I remember a couple of pictures of octagonal (or perhaps multi-sided) rooms with the radial rafters exposed, but as they are all packed away, I won't be able to locate them for you, sorry.
