Rusty:
Since there hasn't been any responses yet, the "Ask the Builder" web site has an article related to your question. Be sure and follow the link at the bottom of the article...

*Rusty,There was a good article in Issue 2 P45 of FH called "The Point of Repointing" discussing why you use a high-lime low portland re-pointing mortar on old brick such as you would find in a 150 yr old building. The author lists the proportions of the portland/lime/sand mix to use. I don't remember the exact ratios, so I won't guess. I have that issue and could look it up if you wish. Email me or post a response.
*Rusty, the question is: "what's wrong now?"Old, or crumbling? Interior or Exterior?More information, better replys.
