There are some brief tricks to distressing furniture at the bottom of this web page.
*Mack,Wire brushing will take out the soft wood leaving the grain raised. Toss a couple of bricks on it for a few good nicks. There are different kinds of tricks you can do with solvents, but I don't know what they are because I'm not much of a painter. I'm sure someone here can lead you in that direction.Ed. Williams

Damaged marble headstones in old family cemetary need to be repaired. Some are loose and turned over. What type of adhesive or silicone would you reccomend to repair them, keeping them as close to original as possible?
*
Tommy, try posting under a new topic heading. In the meantime, whatever you do, don't use a silicone product (you can't get the stuff off to do a "real" repair later on). May I suggest you contact someone locally in the business of manufacturing marble headstones? The pros in that field must have some ways of making the types of repairs you're seeking.
Good luck, Steve

Mack,
The short answer is "yes". You don't say whether you've already finished the piece yet, or whether you'll paint or shellac/varnish, or whether it's still bare. Nor have you said what wood species it is. What precisely do you mean by "old looking"? Beat up? Or the appearance of gently aged wood? Your options depend a lot on these variables.
Applying chemicals to artificially age the wood usually involves the use of some pretty nasty stuff (acetic acid, highly concentrated ammonia, for two examples), so you also need to weigh how much effort you want to put in to this.
This question may better be answered over on Fine Woodworking.
