A local farmer has a large free stall barn with a galvanized roof. The ammonia from the manure is corroding it at a faster than normal rate and replacement is needed. My question is this; Has anyone used Ondura brand (a local building supply carries it)asphalt impregnated corrugated roofing for this application? The roof appears to be a 6/12 pitch with purlins 2’OC. The barn is in upstate NY so snow load and high winds are factors.

I'd never use it on anything other than a barn or shed - again

Which is way beyond me. Having used it on a shed once, I wouldn't use it on anything again. PAHS Designer/Builder- Bury it!
I'm with you and we have a manufacturing plant here in Fredericksburg! Had a fire several months ago. I consider it temporary roofing.Frank DuVal You can never make something foolproof because fools are so ingenious.
we had an unusual hail storm here awhile back. After which, I learned two things....1. Golf ball size hail will not harm 29 ga. metal roofing 2.Golf ball size hail will penetrate Ondura.......On a side note, golf ball size hail will not harm a 1966 ford f250, golf ball size hail will dent a 1992 ford f250 and golf ball size hail will almost penetrate a 2002 ford f250 :)
Used it once. Spec'ed by an arch for his house/barn. Never again.
Sticks and hard pine cones (ones that have not opened) will go thru it.
You can't walk on it to blow it off or make repairs, etc (*especially* after it ages some).
We put up steel after less than five years.
The stuff would be ok for a doghouse or something that's very low to the ground for repairing or cleaning it off standing next to the roofing surface.Don't want to have to walk on it and sharp debris will punch through.I would say it's ok for a roof that won't be exposed to hail and not surrounded by trees.
I used Odura for sidewalls on the cow barn. Useless product, it essentially breaks down right before your eyes.
Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
The correct product is a structural FRP panel by Enduro Composites. This stuff is extremely impact resistant, can be manufactured to be fully walkable (on given purlin spacings). I've used them on industrial facilities with hydrochloric and chlorine atmospheres. Panels are manufactured to any length required.
I've used panels from Enduro Composites in the past. Dealt with a fella by the name of Dave Todd. He's at 425/885-2805. Nice guy and very helpful.
