I was wondering if there was any reason why I couldn’t use 7/16 OSB for carpet underlayment? It is about half the price of 1/2 particle board.

I think it smells worse as it off gases, than PB does.

OSB off gasses? I asked obout OSB and formaldahyde awhile back from the manufacturers and they said it was very low.Rebuilding my home in Cypress, CA

Parenting has always been a mix of sage life advice and inexcusable laziness.
It is, but the manufacturere will always say that.By comparison the osb can give off more than PB because PB is intended for interior while OSB is intended for exterior.Shouold only be an issue for somebody extremely sensitive though, since, like i mentioned, the carpet off gasses worse than PB does anyway

It may not be formaldehyde or anything bad, it just stinks too bad to my sniffer. When I re-sheathed my roof last summer, the part that is cathedral and not insulated yet, stunk up the house for a week or more.Parolee # 40835
