Perhaps this is a better place for my post, but the main page seems to have lost it’s “add discussion” button. I don’t get in many pawn shops much anymore as it seems it’s become big business the past few years, and the deals are no longer there.
Recently walked into one a few weeks ago. Geez, two guys in suits and ties! I used to check these places out for screwdrivers and other hand tools. In the good ole days one could talk prices with them, or just make an offer if it isn’t tagged. Now screwdrivers are six bucks a piece and so forth, where one could get three for that price.
I can’t see how some could buy the powertools I’ve seen. For example, a Makita circular saw covered with crap and five years old. The tag is almost 75% of the price of a new one. The same is true with many other tools. I noticed a wall tile trowel that they tagged at $5.00 rusted and covered with crap. I wonder how long that one will sit on the shelf.
I guess there’s a sucker born every minute, myself included, when I bought a router from one shop many moons ago. It was missing the collet and took two weeks to get another. Do you think they gave a rats butt? I learned my lesson fast, but at the time pawn shops were beginning to spread like wildfire and there was only one big box store in a 60 mile radius.
