Need a sander too? This is a current Amazon deal.
Add to your tool set with a free Porter Cable 343K 5-inch random orbit sander kit with the purchase of select Porter Cable Routers. Enter code FREE343K at checkout. Here's how (restrictions apply)
Thank you for the help. Heard about the deal but I was having a hard time figuring it out - I get slow late at night.
Just bought both of them. Don't be surprised to see the ROS on Ebay next week.
It'll outlast you, and if the sander deal is still available - than how could it be beat.
The 690's are as basic as can be, but well balanced and durable.
The 690 plunge bases kindof suck, but the standard base model is a good workhorse.

I acutually already of another 690 with the plunge base. Bought it last year on Ebay.
This one will replace my old p.o.s. Craftsman that's in my router table. I can't wait to set it up.
The 690 plunge is not too bad if you leave it in the plunge base, but taking it out is a pain (I had the 2 base kit a while back).JT
exactly. I put mine in the plunge base, and haven't taken it out in 4 years. Not sure I can now!!"The nearest thing to eternal life we will ever see on this earth is a governmental program" -Ronald Reagan
I was gonna say the same thing. When I bought my router it was between the PC and the Bosch. When I looked at both the PC plunge base was clunky at best.
Really sticky action.
I ended up with the Bosch. Good choice.
I bought the PC kit first, sold that and bought the Dewalt 3 base and now have the Bosch kit.The Dewalt had some nice features, but the height adjustment both handheld and under a table was sloppy.JT
