I installed a pellet stove two years ago, all was fine until i cleaned out the stove pipe before this season, I now have a slight smell of wood burning fumes coming out from the base of the pipe cleanout, just until the draught starts pulling. Are the fumes similar to a wood stove, no harm, or do the glues that bind the pellets create a hazard?

You must have broken a high temp silicon caulking joint seal. These units don't work by natural draft as would a wood stove but by fan forced draft which is postive relative to room pressure at the cleanout.
They are quite a complicated piece of gear with safety features such as internal pressure sensors to shut the unit down in case of misfiring, fan seizure, etc. I'd recomend a qualified service tech to check it out at least once a year if you use it fulltime.

Yeah it smells like a wood stove....I kinda like it. we have a carbon monoxide detector within 6 feet of the stove, never an alarm. I'm going to recaulk the cleanout cap and see what happens. Whats a Neocon?? do i buy them by the dozen?
