I am going to install several rooms of Pergo. I want to buy the clamps. The problem is that they are roughly $56/clamp. It is just a strap w/a plate on one end and a rachet on the other! Are there any suppliers that are providing these things closer to the real cost? I think they should be no more than $20. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Try renting. I can rent an install kit at my local (I really hate to say it!) Home Depot. It costs $35 for the day.

Ryan,
I have done that....they are a mess. Glue everywhere and you have to untangle them because the bozo that had them before you didn't feel the need to treat them like they were one of their own tools(or maybe they did??!!). I spent almost an hour getting the last set ready to use. Not fun! I was hopping to find someone who knew another supplier for those clamps or similar ones that would work. Thanks for the response. Wish me luck.

Mark, the HD store in Santa Ana Calif get $40 for those clamps. Where are you? IKEA stores here in Calif sell a floor product made in Sweden identical to Pergo for about 2/3 the price. They do carry clamps, but I don't know how much except cheaper. Not much help, but they are http://www.ikea.com for locations and phone numbers. Joe H

Joe,
I am in the Metro DC area....in Virginia. Lots of things cost more here. Thanks for the tip on Ikea. Will check it out. I appreciate the help.

*yeah, don't buy any ,go to your nearest scrap pile ,get some one by whatever whip a little rabbit on one edge ,to hold down leading edge of your laminate flooring push firmly and work your way down the edge of the one by with drywall screws. run them at an angle towards the flooring your'e installing.start as many new courses as you can down the way while the previous joints set up a bit

Mark, If you haven't already, take a look at http://www.floorsearch.com Lots of threads about various types of laminate floors, their long-term performance and installation. You may think twice about Pergo after some reading there though. Good luck with what ever you decide.

Jorgensen makes a similar clamp with a 15 foot strap for
$9.95. If the strap isn't longenough, put two together.
They are available at homecenters.
I'm sure you could alternatively devise a good wedge system
that would involve screwing a board down, putting another
board along the pergo, and driving wedges in between.
Wouldn't take the floor all the way, but the last couple
courses you could wedge against the cabinet bases, walls,
whatever. Instead of wedges you could use a reverse clamp
or spreader as well.

Farm and Fleet stores , Menards and others have cargo tydown straps for pickups and lite trucks not very exspensive. I use mine to pull walls and beams into place .

I've installed a few of these...Pergo/Bruce/Ikea. All very similar. Ever wonder why all these brands come from the same small town in Sweden, yet you have to use their particular brand of glue? Never used the clamps. Set pieces of 1/2in. material against starting wall. Lay out the suggested number of courses.Glue up and beat into place with the beater block.Screw a wedge piece into subfloor(usually a scrap of 3/4in. material aprox 6in. long)and tap the corresponding wedge into place till alittle glue squirts.Let dry and repeat.....or it could just be the cold medicine talking...Jeff Oh yeah...use more than ONE set of wedges!
