Do most folks leave the pilot light on direct vent fireplace on during the heating season? I would think yes but the manual says no? Why? Thanks

Turning off the pilot light during the heating season seems to eliminate the purpose of a pilot light. You sure they say to not leave it on?
It says do not leave it on. I do not understand why?
Got me too. I don't know. Is there a customer support phone number to call and ask them why?
