FIRST TIME PLANER OWNER. I HAVE PAID FOR PLANER SERVICES IN THE PAST BUT I HAVE NEVER OWNED ONE UNTIL NOW. I AM ALREADY RECEIVING REQUEST FOR PLANE SERVICES BUT HAVE NO IDEA ON HOW MUCH TO CHARGE FOR THIS SERVICE. THE LUMBER I WOULD BE PLANING WOULD BE HEART PINE RECLAIMED FROM OLD BARNS. WHAT WOULD BE A FAIR PRICE FOR SUCH SERVICES?

My hardwood supplier's charge about five or six cents per bd. ft. more for planed lumber over rough sawn.

*Hey Joe,If you have been using a planer service in the past, then you should have an idea of how much the service should cost. I must assume you paid per board foot, or maybe even per board type. Just go by what you have been paying, and add what you think the extra time to do difficult wood is worth.By the way, you need to turn off the CAPS. It means that you are yelling.James DuHamel

If you're going to be planing old barn lumber you better invest in a real good metal sensor to detect imbedded nails and screws. One nail and you'll be buying new knives and they ain't cheap.
