Pneumatic nailer sparks/ dormer at JLCl
Watching the dormer framing at the JLC live expo. Did not see the brand of pneumatic nailer being used (quite a crowd, 3 deep standing inthe back) but about 2 of 3 shots it threw a single rather bright spark. Assume it was an incandescent metal fragment.
Have a N88RH, old Senco, and a couple of HF cheapies, non throw sparks I’ve ever noticed. The way I can let sawdust pile up I’d be afraid of a spark thrower. Very seldom watch pros in action, but think the JLC demo sparks were the brightest I’ve ever seen from anything other than grinding steel.
Whose nailer throws sparks, or can it be due to a specific brand of nails?
Yes it was pneumatic, there was an air hose and compressor running.

My bostitch N80C does sometimes. I'm not sure what from- the driver probably rubs some metal along it's path, and there's also the collation wire that gets snapped when a nail is driven.
Seems like my finish nailer does it once in a while too- a bostitch N62FN. No wire collations on that one, of course.
Both these nailers work great- no jamming ever.

Sparks in a confined environment can make for a hard day at the office.
I've used a couple of 10 degree sencos that threw sparks about every 6th nail.
Ofcourse they would double nail about evry 3rd shot too.

A lot of framing nailers will spark until they break-in some. It's pretty normal.
I've seen sparks comin' outta my Senco SFN 40 15ga. finish gun.

Our Sencos spark sometimes - near as we can tell, it's the nails, especially if they have gotten alitlle wet and have a little rust on them
Hello Junkhound,
I also have an N88RH and it will throw sparks depending on the nails. The sparkiest was a box of Hitachi with green plastic collation (which were total crap -- in addition to regularly throwing sparks, the green plastic is too brittle so the nail sticks had to be handled way too carefully -- maybe the sparks were from poor nail alignment in the gun due to that brittle green plastic?). The Hitachi nails with the sort of light brown plastic collation work fine though.
Nobody around here seems to stock the Bostich nails. I'd guess they's work the best in the gun made for them. ;-)
