I have been having problems with my water as posted under “Weak water”. Now the pump fails to pump water and just “sits and spins”, yeah I shut it off. I’ve been told that I may have to prime the pump. Now I have to places I’m looking at- one being the square nut on top of the impeller body and one outside where the line 90’s down into the well itself. The pump lugnut is rusted on good-been using penetrating lube and taps with a peen but I don’t want to bust anything. The outside lug is plastic and easier to get off. Do I need to get the pump lugnut off and pour water in there so as to immerse the impeller and create suction? As such do I have to pour in just enough water to fill the body, tighten the nut and start the pump? There is a gallon of water that has been sitting next to the pump since we bought the house (year and a half) that semed a mystery at first but now may make sense.
Someone else told me my foot-valve may need cleaning. The doesn’t seem too technical but I don’t want to bust something else. I believe but don’t know 100% that the well is 30′, perhaps dug opposed to drilled. There are two plastic lines exting the pump to the green plastic head cap on the well. I’m worried about pulling two thirty or forty foot lengths of pipe up without breaking them. Are they usually flexible or not? Should I lash on a rope up and over the house and pull straight up?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated. I am so glad for plumbers, all I know is that water runs downhill, payday is Friday and wash my hands before eating lunch…

Yeah, I had to replace a check valve that busted in my well last year and had to re0prime the pump...mine had a short length of copper flex line coming out the side and going up about two feet (looked like a vent) A plumber buddy of mine told me to pour water in that bad boy till it wouldn't take it any more and it'd be primed---thats what i did and it worked fine!
Maybe you could get the brand info of the side of it and call the manufacturer?
Sorry i can't be of more help, but i'm with you--not a plumber, water runs downhill, payday friday and wash up!~
