We were doing a demo last week and uncovered some PVC gas lines. I am only familiar with galvinized or black iron. This stuff was orange, so it did not appear to be your usual water/schedule 40 PVC.
Is that code anywhere you guys know?
I may have to pull a permit and was just curious.

It was probably PE not PVC and was made for gas. Meets code in a lot of areas and is used by most utilities now.

What the heck is PE and how does it differ from PVC?
Are the installation techniques the same?

I believe P. E. is for polyethelyne, I have also seen HDPE which i bekieve is high density poltethelyne. I have only seen it used by gas companies here underground, and it was joined by heat fusion, which is supposed to be very secure. It is sort of like welding or melting the pipes together and they use an electric powered device to cut, heat and clamp the pipes together. I believe there are other ways to join it as well but have only seen it done this way.
