Hi,
I just got the Oatey Transition Glue (green glue). On the back of the bottle it gives the step by step directions for applying the stuff. Interestingly, the Transition Glue does not say that primer is needed on the PVC, they don’t mention anything about it either way. However, on regular PVC cement it does mention that the primer is needed. So do I or don’t I need to use primer on the PVC with the Transition Glue? I tried to contact the company, but everyone has been out of the office. Probably smoking some stoggies somewhere warm.
Thanks,
Ry

I'm not sure about applying primer on the PVC or not, be keep in mind that this glue is not approved under the IRC. You cannot use a solvent connection to join dissimilar plastic pipe materials.
I'm not saying it won't work, but if you're going to have to pass inspection, I would consult your inspector first.

Code or no, that stuff works.
Without primer.

I've never used primer when marrying PVC to ABS with solvent cement. I dont remember green blue but that doesnt mean anything. I use the Oatey products.
Re. IRC and what is allowed, I did not know that IRC does not permit this, but have had numerous jobs with transitions inspected over the years and never a problem.
Also never had any leaks.
I have also always used the oatey products.
Sand well, use purple primer, and the cement that says it will join the dissimilar pipes.
Never ever had a leak. (Knock on wood.)
I've used it in a pinch and so far haven't had a problem.
but 2 plumbers who I trust very much absolutely refuse to use it.
