We have a 4-bay car shed with a low roof and dirt floor that I would like to convert to a woodworking shop. To do this, the roof will need to be raised, the fourth side enclosed, and some form of floor established. My concern is whether or not even to be using the existing structure (concrete block). In one corner the roots of an oak tree have created some cracks. Additionally, a fence that had been mounted to the same exterior corner had a tree fall on it, which in turn has added more cracks to the masonry wall. The cracks from the tree roots are just that – cracks, while the damage due to the fence falling has dislodged some blocks to create as much as 1/2″ gaps.
What should be my questions? What should be my concerns?

based on what I hear, it's a good time to start from scratch
*And move it the hell away from that oak tree. The roots will only continue to destroy the masonry and soon the cracks will be much larger than the 1/2" ones.Gabe
