Hi guys. Does anybody out there have any experience or know anybody who has had a gearbox go out on a Makita 10″ SCMS saw? Ive heard this can happen if the blade jams in a cut. I really want to buy this saw over the Hitachi 10″ because the scales are easier to read and because of the fine bevel adjustment. But if the Makita blows gearboxes, Ill go with the belt driven Hitachi. Thanks in advance

Ive had one for about a year and a half. It's a great saw with a couple of draw-backs. I don't like the handle sticking out so far on the front. It's a bit flimsy? and easily bent. Also it' a heavy brut to move around. However the double compound is nice and I find it accurate enough. No problems with any motor function and the slow start is an excellent feature. Once you have that you'd insist on it. Just as a note, who the hell keeps the trigger pulled when a piece jams? or is the dammage done by the time you get your finger off the trigger? I'd be interested to know.

Really, anybody actually know someone who has blown any kind of mitersaw gear box?

My boss got me an ls1013 as a Christmas bonus, and I really like it. The miter-detents aren't as positive as some other saws like the Bosch, but it comes with a primo blade. I haven't had any problems with mine. I don't see how you could jam it while making a cut, unless you're one of those guys who's really hard on tools.
