Hi, I live in Australia and wish to install a new rangehood which requires 6-inch ducting (in stead of existing 4-inch).
Is it appropriate to use PVC pipe through the ceiling, then aluminium flexi-duct to an outside vent (called chinaman’s hat in Oz)? We have a galvanised metal roof. I thought PVC and flexi-duct would be a fire risk.
There are manufacturers that sell all galvanised set-ups.
Most contract installers in Perth seem to go the PVC and flexi-duct route. All advice appreciated.

You are right...have a grease fire and the pvc will melt away. Metal all the way gives better protection.................Iron Helix
I've never seen anything but galvanized or aluminum here. I would think the grease build-up would be an issue with plastic.
Try to stay away from flex as much as possible. Make the run as short and smooth as you can.
I have worked in the HVAC field in Florida for 21 years and have never seen anything but galvanized sheet metal used [ round or rectangular ]
