Reducing furnace duct noise

Can anyone suggest a good method to reduce furnace duct noise during heating cycle? Most of the noise seems to originate between the plenums and registers. I have a two zone system, all ductwork metal, most runs are 35 – 40 feet. Has anyone used flex ducts anywhere on the runs to compensate for expansion?
