Refinishing Hardwood-Matching Finishes?
Good Morning. I have three rooms of oak strip that was refinished about 5-6 years ago. I want to do a quick refinish and know that I can do a light sand to give some tooth to the existing poly finish. Do I need to apply poly as the new coat or can I go to a waterbased finished? Should TSP be used before I scuff the existing poly? Thanks !

We can imagine something that only exists in our heads, in a form that has no measureable, tangible reality, and make it actually occur in the real world. Where there was nothing, now there is something.

Was the floor ever waxed? If so, you should remove the wax--and what you use depends on whether the wax had silicone or not. (Unfortunately, most does and that will interfere with new finish.) If never waxed, I'd probably just scuff it with something like 220 and recoat.
I may be wrong, but I wouldn't try putting waterbased over what is there--I think you have enough going against you without trying that, but let's see what others say!
