Hello friends.
I need to build 8′ long concrete fence posts that will be buried 2′ in the ground. My objective here is to increase their strength against being broken with a hammer. Reinforcing them with steel rebar will not serve much of use. Would using a steel mesh placed in the mold appropriately when the concrete is being poured help to make them stronger for the intended purpose. These poles are going to be round or square, either 6″ in diameter or 6″x6″.
Thanks a lot.

Granted it’s over a hundred years old but might dispense some valuable info.
In my experience, reinforcing rod (re-rod or re-bar) would provide more lateral strength and show less cracking in the post length. In bridge building there’s experimenting and testing using fiberglass and other non corrosive rod for the reinforcing of concrete.
Chipping? All concrete can be chipped with a hammer. Your ratio of mix will give you various hardness ratings. What are these to be used for?
Bollards are steel pipe filled with concrete. Running into them with a car does more damage to the car.
