I need to install three way switches between two buildings about 75′ apart, to turn lights off and on. Rather than dig a trench and use wires, I would love to find a radio- or remote-controlled system. The ideal installation would look like a standard switch in a standard switch box, but would function like a remote-controlled garage door opener, but controlling lights instead of the opener. Surely this technology exists, but where? Has anybody out there done this, or anything “remotely” similar?

Have you considered X10/home automation tech.?
Try http://www.gohts.com/home/
or http://www.smarthomeusa.com/

x10 is definately the way to go. Just remember you will have to put your "home" switch on the same side of your main fuse box as your power line to the second building.
With this system you don't need a 3-way circuit.
You can probably get what you need at Radio Shack.

It's only a matter of time before the govmint comes down on all of these remote systems. They're already talking about it. Seems there's too much emission of stray waves in the air these days, and stuff's going bonkers. I, myself, have a phantom garage door opening at least once a month, even though I change the settings afterward. Guess there aren't enough discrete codes to separate us masses from each other.
*Just be sure you install adequate shielding. Lots of rf around now-a-days. And your gear will be required to accept any interference and not give off any to someone's radio, garage door opener, etc.Let us know how it works out.

Ziemer...what do you mean by "home" switch? Are you talking about a radio-control, or power-line control.

There is a radio unit readily available to do this. I believe it is made by Heath/Zenith. HD caries them. One switch wires in and the other takes a 9v battery. About 15 bucks.
