I am looking to install a wood burning fireplace to replace a fake fireplace in my living room.
The inside opening (brick around) is 30H x 35W with the brickwork extending on the floor @12″ into the room. The current fake fireplace goes back @ 13″ through the wall and is covered by what best could be called a doghouse looking extension. The extension seems to have a foundation under it (it’s stucco covered and seems reasonably heavy).
I could lift the lower shingles and it looks like the back of the fake firepace is steel and cement. I tried scraping it inside with a screwdriver and didn’t do any harm to it.
I’d like something that would stick through the hole and use a steel chimney outside.
I can’t get a better look at it’s foundation since the deck covers a former concrete patio right next to it. If I remove the shingles, I should be able to look down from the inside.
Thanks for any ideas,
Rich
