A client approached with a desire for a steam room in his shower area. We’re removing a tub 2.5′ x 5.0′ and creating a shower of same size with a tiled mud floor- bench seats- frameless door and enclosure. At first I balked at the idea, but then as I thought about it I figured why not. I’ve been told that I need to use a membrane as a vapor barrier (such as ‘Choroloy’) and that it’s wise to slope the ceiling approx. 2.5″/ft. to avoid drips. Are there any more ideas out there? -suggestions for a steam unit and size? -pitfalls to avoid? I’ld appreciate all your help, as I have in the past. Thanks in advance!

You can buy a steam unit to install in a regular shower stall. It doesn't take any special treatment of the walls or anthing. Check with you local plumbing supplier. We are in the middle of a bath remodel where the customer had me take his out. He said that he just doesn't use it anymore.

*Ed, pack it up and send it COD, I can dispose it for you. Remodelerj the finish you put in the shower and the size shower you have are critical to sizing the unit. The manufactureres I use are very helpful in seeing that you get the maximum from the equipment. skip
*Hey Skip,We just left the unit in the attic. Disconnected the plumbing and that's it. There is no way I'm crawling up in that attic in the middle of August in Texas. Sorry Bubba.Ed. Williams
*Skip, Could you maybe pass along the info on the manufacturer you use. I plan to meet with the plumbing supplier tomorrow, but experience has taught me that any project out of the ordinary is met with nervous laughs, shrugged shoulders, and skepticism. At least in my neck of the woods in upstate NY. The more info I come to the table with yields better results. Thanks!
*remodlrj, Try this site http://www.plumbingworld.com/mrsteam.html. I'm sure there are others.
