Anyone know of a kit or a method that will turn a recessed ceiling can into a box capable of mounting a pendant light or any other surface-moint light fixture? I’ve found nothing in hardware stores, lighting stores, or on the internet.
If such a kit does not exist, I’ve thought of cutting out a circular piece of sheet metal, thick plexiglass, or wood to use as a panel to cover the large hole (painted white as appropriate). I would hang the panel from the recessed can’s interior with heavy-duty springs, then mount the pendant to the panel. I could remove the existing socket, and tie off the pendant’s wires to the existing wires with wire nuts (or I could use some sort of screw-in socket adapter with two 14-gauge wires). Any electric-code savvy people think this would be up to code?
