I have a Rigid 10″ contractor (portable) saw which just stopped as if power was shut off. I had only ripped a couple short 1″ pine boards when it stopped. Power is good to saw. Thought maybe breaker tripped but not the case. Do not see an over load button on the motor.and the saftey lock is in place on the switch.
HAs anyone experienced this problem asn if so did you manage to revive the saw. Any ideas out there. Im currently working on an island and do not have access to all my teste tools which are 7 hours away.
Thanks, Martin

Martin, do not have that saw....
but have faced that problem when a couple table saws have crapped out.
i bypass the switch for the quick check of the system once enough voltage is verified at the source.
switches on most contractor portables eventually give up. An old Rockwell I have, had lousy replacement switches. I mounted a handy box and residential switch on the old location to get me through a remodel.
its still on there.
another time on the Bosch I bypassed the switch, plugged into a surge strip and used the switch on it.
Rigid contractor saw problem
As suspected by myself and the two replys on the subject it was the switch.
I actually managed to take it apart completely and because it is a contact switch (like a water pump switch) rather than toggle one of the four contacts had arched enough to heat up the plastic plunger causing it to melt and stick not allowing to contact any more.
I filed down the problem contact and then put some epoxy on the top of the plastic that had melted allowing it to have enough thickness to make the plunger push the contact together again when engauged by the front pull up switch. The trick was getting the parts all back together. I dont think they ever wanted them to be opened and repaired.
Will order a new asembly switch so when it eventually fails again will be able to replace.
PS..there is a small circuit board located in the bottom of the main wiring body the switch is attached too. I was woried it would be toast but testing indicated the plunger switch only. All working for now.
Thanks to the two comments I received re possible switch. Nice to have others confirm what you think may be the problem.

I had this happen on my old 8" B&D. Took the switch assembly apart and put it back together and it started working again.
