antone familiar with rockwool and it’s characteristics? I am planning to do my cellar overhead and I’m unclear if rockwool bats would need to be covered. Thanks for your thoughts on this matter in advance.

I use Rockwool for firestopping. You dont need to cover it, but my experience with it would make me want to cover it.
I use the semi rigid sheets and they are (for lack if a better word) brittle.
Like MSA1 said, cover it. It is the itchiest ,nastiest insulation I know of. Especially for the ceiling, every vibration of the floor above and it will rain fibers.
