Adding an addittion perpendicual to the original structure so roofs intersect at a 90 deg angle.
Plate height same, 2×6/7 pitch on original, 2×10 7 pitch on new. Sophits and fascia need to line up, be same depth and height.
“Carps” on the job are not in agreement with each other, nor one of them with me on cutting new rafter.
To simplify, I told them that if they were to take the tail end of one of the old 2×6 rafters and line up the top edge, trace it out that is the tail pattern.
The one carp that disagrees is adamant, but cannot explain how to get the tails to line up otherwise.
Maybe I’m missing something. I’m here to learn. I don’t cut roofs everyday.
Your help is appreciated.

If the plate heights are the same, and the pitch is the same, the height-above-plate (and the overhang) needs to be the same, for the tails/fascia to line up. Meaning a deeper seat-cut on the addition, if the rafters are cut from wider stock. Which I assume is what you meant by the mysterious designation 2x6/7 pitch on original, 2x10 7 pitch on new
edited to add:
Or you could compensate for the higher rafters by giving the addition a larger overhang.

The new rafters will probably look something like this

Good, that's what I'm thinking.

I have a plumb fascia though so I see no need to rip the stock down, although there will be a long level cut for the sophitt.
Would you leave on the portion of the rafter on the inside of the plates?
How about leaving it on both sides? Too difficult to get the rafter seated?[email protected]
Trying to leave the full depth of the rafter outside the wall, will likely result in a split or at least wanting to curl sideways rafter tail.
I'd make the inside cut level with or ABOVE the ciel joists plane. So'd when the joists shrink, no bump where the rafter was cut, if it don't shink as well.

Forgot to mention that this will be cathedral.

No point in a level cut then.

Ep,
Had a like job 2 months ago, same problem with a carp. Finally said we could cut one to see if my idea worked, it did and I enjoyrd my 3 finger steak that night.

Huck's got it. If the pitch is the same, the wall height is the same, and the trim detail will be the same.... you're stylin'.... that's cake and pie.... "Tie-Ins 101" Just keep the HAP or 'heel stand' the same as the existing and all will be well.
I knew I was right.
