We’re nearly ready to begin building a new home in the Charlottesville area. I’ve read all the posts and other material on felt versus Tyvek for wall weather barrier over OSB sheathing/under fiber cement siding and have decided to use felt. Based on the archives here, I’m keen on Roofers Select felt for this application as it has much better tear resistance. What do you think? Any experience with this?

Roofers Select is great for roofs..it does have a few draw backs..
it is reinforced with fiberglass.. that's one reason it's so stable..but the fibers itch if you rest your forearms on it... and the fibers kind of blow off into the air when you're unrolling the stuff..
also it costs more than standard 15lb. felt...so ..
....i will continue to use it for all our roofs, but if i were doing sidewall i'd use regular 15 lb. felt..
just fold it for your spline areas ....like corners and windows.. so u have a double layer..
... i don't think tear resistance should be a factor in sidewall application...
b but hey , whadda i no ?
*your post here has been here a while, with not much response so I'll give it a stab. The UBC code we use in Minn. requires type D felt for side walls. It is to be applied to the bottom of the rafters, not the bottom of the lookouts. I don't know how exactly type D is different, but our lumber yard is carrying it. You might also check to make sure that the fiberglass felt you are talking about is code approved in your area. The last thing I read about them was that they may be better, but they are not yet rated for most uses.Steve
