Anyone know if there is a roofing gun that shoots longer than a 2″ nail?
I have miles and miles of ridge vent and cap to put on my current job and would like to save some time.

Skim-coating with joint compound covers texture, renews old drywall and plaster, and leaves smooth surfaces ready to paint.

Don't know if this will work for you, but it does claim to shoot a 2 1/4" nail

Thats a framing gun, heads aren't big enough to hold a shingle down very long.
Sorry. My bad. The specs said it was for Applications * Decking
* Drywall
* Roofing
* Sheathing
* ShinglesSo much for truth in advertising. Good luck in the search.Tua res agitur, paries cum proximus ardet ~ Horace
No big deal, I saw that it said roofing in the specs too.
You need Benjamin Obdyke gunnable ridge vent. We get it through ABC Supply around here there should be a store close to you as well. It costs more per foot than standard,but you can put it down as fast as you can move a nail gun.
We've been using it for about two years now. Awesome product. The 1 34" nail coils to put it down are inc. each roll. Any roofing gun will take those. Good luck.
The plans call for Shingle Vent 2. THe stuff that comes in 4' sections and is plastic. I have used roll out vents before and like them alot.
I asked the job superviser today and he said it would take a few weeks to get that approved from the architect and the board at the retirement home. So I am screwed on that. But he wants me to build his house this spring so thats a bonus.
It's too cold out to hand nail down 10 miles of ridge and cap. This is a huge job.
i've gun nailed to that ridge vent many times and not had a problem yet.
2" nails should be plenty long.
I think I am going to nail the plastic vent down with my Positive Placement gun and galvanized 8's.
The buildings in a wide open area so high winds are a factor. I can picture the vent being blown into the adjacent field. LOL
The ridge cap and 2" nails I was going to try on a small area and see if I could tear it off with my hands if not we have a winner.
if high winds are a factor any type of ridge vent could be problems for the cap.
may have to glue the cap with construcion adhesive before nailing.
Too cold for gluing cap down, highs in the teens and low 20's next week. The glue would freeze solid.
What about something like these http://www.amazon.com/Hurriquake-21-Degree-Collated-000-Qty-131-inch/dp/B000JO6RLI
Hurriquake nails. Also, I remember Tim Uhler (I think) talking about larger head framing nails that are available for hurricane and quake areas. The 8's you mentioned, I would worry that the head size might allow it to pull through.

Those nails look like they will work, with the larger head. I was only going to use the 8's for the plastic vent not the cap.
