Larry:
Why would you even consider a clipped head nailer if the costs of using a full head are the same?

*Larry,To answer your question, let me respond to the other posts first. To answer FredB's question: I would use clipped head, costs being the same ( which including gun purchase price, nail costs and other factors, for me clipped head cost less) because more sizes in more styles and coatings are available for clipped head in my area. Additionally, clipped head fit my paslode impulse guns which I use for some circumstances. I also use clipped head because I believe clipped head, properly driven, are acceptable for all applications in my area and full head offers few benefits( one being that they look better when left exposed in nailed on deckboards). Also, I agree with Joe regarding the separating of nailed boards. What glue are you referring to Joe? I never counted nails in the different racks and although the clipped head are stacked right against one another while the full heads are spaced, I thought that the increased size of the magazine on a full head gun allows it to hold close to the same amount of nails. I could be wrong. I think if I had a framing application that required full head nails I would probably by a coil nailer as they hold substantially more nails in a more compact package. To sum up my biggest issues are strength ( not an issue in my opinion ), cross gun compatability and nail selection ( big issues !).My thoughts,Tom

*Oh, that glue. Thought you might have meant this.
*Larry;About 4 years ago I bought the more compact Senco clipped head nail gun new. Before I started using it though, I thought I'd give a call to my local building department to check and see if the clipped nails met the codes in Portland, Oregon. I was told NO they do not meet the code. Of course the guy who sold me the tool didn't know anything. Long story short, it would have been really distressing to use the first gun, and then find that not only did the job not pass muster with the city, but also that I was not able to return a slightly used gun to the store! I returned it and bought the bulkier full-round gun instead. Jon.
