I am trying to find a plywood that I can cleanly rout edges on. I have seen furniture and displays made of 1/2″ or 5/8″ plywood about seven layers or so and it is solid, no gaps on the inner layers. The edges were rounded over and smooth. Can I obtain this plywood from suppliers for a reasonable price? Anybody seen this stuff for sale anywhere?

What you have probably seen is 7-ply baltic birch plywood. It comes in 5 x 5 sheets or something like that and is pretty universally available from hardwood plywood dealers. I do not know the cost, but it aint cheap. Hope that helps.

*Mark, I think I paid $17+ a sheet for 1/2" last month here in So Calif. It's 9 ply & it's actually metric so slightly under 1/2". Comes from Russia, And they mostly save the knot holes for something else I guess. Joe H
*Also one called Apple ply (Apple-Ply?); any cabinet shop supplier will probably have one or the other.
*Kind of tough to tell what you are getting from the supply houses these days. Today's invoice tells me I just bought 'Import Plywood 12MM (1/2) 4x8". They said it's paraply.
*What you have seen is a true cabinet grade plywood. Home suppliers like HD or Lowes carry a cheap version, but it has a lot of voids INSIDE.A true cabinet grade will be either a 7 ply, or a 9 ply. The interior, as well as all edges, have no voids, and the interior plies are all hardwood. Some of the cheaper versions use a pine interior ply.Cabinet grade species and quality are higher in price, and are available from any cabinet materials supplier. You can, in most cases, go to a cabinet maker and ask him if he will sell you some. Most will oblige, especially if they feel you are not in competition with them. The last I bought, about 2 weeks ago, was a 7 ply Maple (4 x 8 x 3/4") one piece face. The sheets cost me $49.00 each. Two, or multi piece face (means that the face, or clear side, is a combination of two or more pieces of veneer - you can see the seams)usually runs about $10.00 a sheet cheaper.Good luck....James
