Screening under screened porch floor
I am getting ready to install the decking on my new covered deck and plan to enclose it with screening as well (8’x48′). My question is do I need to install screening over the joists to keep bugs out. I’m in the midwest, bugs are not usually terrible. I don’t want to install screening because I’m afraid it will just collect dirt. Decking is ipe, spacing between decking will be approx 3/32″
Anyone have experience and regrets after foregoing the floor screening?
Thanks,
Steve

FHB had an issue on screened in porches last year sometime. They suggested using screen under the deck. You can down load any article for a few bucks. Go to taunton home and archives.
We did not install screen under the decking of our screened in porch. I think that was the right decision for us here in Tennessee. We get very few bugs coming from underneath the porch--no mosquitos, strangely enough. In the Spring, however, we get a lot of pollen on the deck and usually wash the deck with a hose several times. I'd be afraid that the screen underneath the deck boards would trap the dust, dirt, and dead bugs that collect on the porch. So, I'd vote for no screen.
I am also slowly developing plans for a screen porch and spa. It is my plan to screen the Exterior perimeter to prevent the eventual dirt/moisture/mold trap issues of under deck screen. Less screen as well.

don't use the screen under the decking. It will fill with dirt and make a mess. I suggest a slight pitch to the framing and leave a 1/2 " space at the low end filled with a u shaped screen you can remove to wash down the deck. Did I mention to install the deck boards tight? T&G decking works best.

I'm installing t&g fir floor over joists on my new screened porch, can you tell me what tyoe of fastener and length you would suggest.
I will be puting insect screen on the joists first (if possible
Why screen?
you've got t&g, what's the screen for?
Type of fastener? I've used an air assist flooring nailler with SS fasteners-these were going into treated joists, but what the heck-I don't know if they make galv. floor cleats if your joists happen to be non treated.
I put screen under a small portion of deck I have in my screen cage. It has rescued me a time or two by catching things I dropped and fell through a crack. This is not accessible from the bottom. There is a little dirt laying on the screen but not really that bad.
