Joe, I bought a DeWalt deck screw gun last year. I bought a DeWalt more or less because I thought it was about the best one out there at the time. I have come to the conclusion that it is not THE best, but it sure is nice at times. The tool itself has balls of solid brass and will sink any screw that I point it at , but it tends to heat up quite quickly. The reason for that most likely has to do with the fact that DeWalt supposively skimps on better gearing and makes up for this with a stronger motor. While this does make up the difference in power, it takes away from the overall performance of the motor - the motor effectively has to do more work while compensating for the gears and will heat up. Overall, the motor most likely will not last anywhere near as long as one connected to proper gearing. I really can't complain about the DeWalt screw gun though, the handle is comfortable, and it certainly does the job. I think that I would definately look into Milwaukee and Porter-Cable more deeply before buying another one though, and you may want to do the same. Hope that helps out a bit - Nick
*Joe,I was just forced into replacing my DeWalt, which fried on me one day. I bought it 1-2 years ago and as Nick pointed out, it had all the guts, but maybe lacked sophistication. Since then I've tried the Porter Cable 18v, Makita 18v, and the Panasonic 18v... yup, I said Panasonic. I rate them ALL very good with only minor differences, they are all solid, have guts, smooth gearing... so here's my ranking:#1 Panasonic 15.6 v NIMH batteries, orgasmic#2 Makita 18v, sweet#3 Porter Cable 18v, impressiveI have found the new Bosch 24v too heavy, but maybe I'd get used to it. In any case, these machines are all much progressed from the cordless of a couple of years ago so there are probably others to consider.Ron
*Hello Nick and Ron, thanks for the reply. I'm probably leaning toward the Milwaukee, P-C next. I've had nothing but good luck with the M. tools I have,my P-C 14 v cordless has done a real job also. Could go with whichever one feels best in my big grubby mitt! Thanks again-- Joe
