hi ,
i have been using this forum for a month now and i find it helpful and can relate to most of the issues. im currently a framing crewleader for one of the largest homebuilders in country. i have begun to set up my own carpentry & construction business and need some advice on bidding jobs . for example : a customer calls wanting 100 sheets of 5/8 x 4 x 8 sheetrock installed , where can i find the prices of installation so i am in the same $$ amount as the competitors. is there a decent book of pricing to base estimates on ? i know a book cannot figure on garage door track being in the way of a sheet of wall board , but im looking for a dollar amount to begin working on an estimate. i’ve been building for 17 yrs very productively, and want to go on my own due to my company wanting me to build with unskilled workers who do butcher work at best. its time for me to pursue my dream , as i cannot do sloppy work just to please the employer and his outrageous hours set to frame a house. i used to make 800 dollars a month bonus until the hours given were cut by 30% , now the only way to make it is to do sloppy work , which i refuse to do. i work fast and efficient…i believe the key to my success is learning to bid the job. i have the skills , i have the tools , all i need now is knowledge of the industry. if you take time to reply , i will take time to carefully read and understand any advice given. thanks !
