Having virtually no framing experience, I purchased a 10×16 cedar shed from ShedsUSA. They pre-fab all the walls and build the shed on-site. I noticed when the job was all done that they had left a gap in the ridge of the gambrel roof sheathing of about 3 inches, and applied the asphalt shingle cap directly over it. Without a ridge vent, is this a common practice? Since they pre-fab almost everything (the roof shingles were obviously applied on-site) I was concerned that the roof sheathing had just been cut too short off-site and the guys put it up anyway. Just seemed like too much space to me. Please let me know…and thanks for enduring a newbie question.

Someone FORGOT the vent. You can add it easy enough..tear of the caps ( while fresh, ya might be able to save them) add ridge roll and recap with longer nails.
Or flop up a good stink and make them add it.

You will probably get some better responses, but my guess is that they fabricate it with the intention that a cobra vent will go in, and since the vent wasnt there on site, they just capped it.
Even though the vent costs some money, the cap shingles arent a big expense. I think it would be wise to get up there and put one in, its well worth it. The directions are right in the roof vent packaging.

There should be no need for a vent in that shed-no need to change anything
...no need for a vent in that shed...
well, maybe....lots of sheds have gas cans, and various internal combustion engines residing in them - vent will help keep the volatized hydrocarbons diluted - also would help keep temps lower in the summer (and winter), which could be a positive or negative...

Ut oh! I see a vent war boiling up pressure. I like the vent idea..anything for some circulation on a hot day. Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

The guy in the plaid shirt is me, 1985, the location is the nuke plant control room simulator for the plant where I labored in vain for 15 years, the setting is training for Cold License Senior Reactor Operators exam from the NRC just a month later.
The pic is a scanned section of a photo that is 6"x14" and still only shows half of the control boards. Over a thousand controls and indications, and once upon a time, I knew everything there was to know about each one. Still remember a lot, which is primarily a waste of brain cells...

Then why not just install end vents on both gables for good flow thru ventilation.
I bet that shed has no soffit vents to make a ridge vent function properly.
Thanks for all your help guys...they did put in end vents, and i do notice that even on hot days, it is not as hot as it COULD be. Thanks to those that recommend I leave it, 'cause frankly, i need to move on to the next item on that list the wife made.
