I am installing a walk in shower in a basement, approx. 4′ x 6′. All drainage under the slab. Ceramic tile floor and walls. Do I need some sort of a shower pan or is the slab and tile good enough. I live in the northeast. |

Yes, a proper shower installation would include a waterproofing membrane on the walls and a shower pan. The problem is that if you don't waterproof the shower, you will get some seepage behind the walls, and even though it is in the basement, the water will cause hidden dameges.

I'm sorry, I thought you wanted it done the right way.

The Kerdi membrane is used for walls and floor pans. The Kerdi drain is quite superior to other types. New to the Kerdi product line, the foamboard preslope pans are only good for showers of certain sizes, but if you are flexible enough on size, they are labor-savers.
Ditto what others will say about the need for a membrane in your pan. You want to capture and drain any seepage that gets through the grout.
>the foamboard preslope pans are only good for showers of certain sizesAccording to the mfg, you can add foam to the outside, or trim it, to accommodate other sizes.
