I am residing the back of my house, replacing asbestos cement shingles with repros made of fiber cement. There are 2 outside corners. The company removing the asbestos shingles also removed the aluminum outside corner molding that the shingles butt up against. I need to replace this molding (so that I don’t have to fuss with the corners). How should I do this? Someone suggested I use a metal break to create my own, but I haven’t used one before.
Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. Joe, Boston MA

He's broke from having the sbestos taken off!>G<
I'm replacing same with same because it is easier and will look better. The front and sides of the house are the old asbestos shingles, so I wanted to keep the look similar. Plus if I switched to cedar shingles (this is what is under the cement shingles), then I have to do a bunch of modifications - like removing the plywood that comes out to the level of the cedar shingles, figure out the transition from cedar shingles to that alumimun corner molding. Seems like more work than just putting on new shingles.
Don't get defensive, I was just funnin'!
Me I just don't like the looks of them asbestos shingles, but each to their own. At least they hold paint real well!!!

It does, it is not my favorite siding, close to the botom. the botten would be masonite.
Asbestos shingles ain't my idea of elegance either, but they do hold a sort of nostalgic appeal for me. My Grandma's house was sided with them; I lived with her for 10 years and loved that old place.
Heck, those shingles did last better than 50 years, ugly as they were. The house was built in 1920 and they were still in good shape in 1978 when we sold it.
New owner covered 'em with 'wide-board' aluminum siding, the twit. Not an improvement....

Wide alun siding, is about 3rd from the bottom!
Asbestos is at the number 2 from the bottom.
I think that t111 is tied with it.
Who did you use as a supplier? The only company I found that has the repro stuff is GAF I believe and they don't seem to have the outside corner molding......
Yes GAF, makes the siding. any major siding supplier would be able to get it and has lines on the metal corners which come from other manufacturer. you buy from suppliers not from a manufacturer.i'm not stating the specific supplier because I priced this to three places and any one of them had the corners available.
