I’m putting down Trex with Simpson’s DBT1Z deck fasteners, that catch under the previous board, then you toenail the other side.
After the second course I’m realizing these things must be meant for a soft deck surface like cedar or redwood where the DBT1Z’s can dig in. With the hard Trex I’m seeing a sort of shiplap look as the deck ties lift the edge of the preceeding board and the toenailed edge is lower.
I’ve gone to lengths to rip 2 1/4″ rolls of Vikor out of 9″ rolls, packing my Skilsaw full of melted rubber, then laying a membrane over each joist, and really don’t want to continue screwing up this protection if I’m going to end up with a shiplap deck surface and pulling it back up. I’d rather face screw the whole thing than have that.
Is this gonna settle in, or can anyone confirm that TREX and DBT1Z’s are not compatible?
