Hi all…I have a small cottage to build, and want to use SIP construction for all the obvious reasons, which I won’t go into here. I have used them on post and beam construction recently, and would like to use them this time sans frame. I don’t have a lot of information yet on suppliers, prices etc., and would welcome any first hand knowledge anyone would like to share. One thing I have noticed during one of my may trips online, is that most SIPs manufacturers DO NOT apply sheetrock to their panels. This is a great place to save time and money in my opinion. and would much rather see it done by a robot at a factory somewhere than by poor old me 😉 Thanks in advance for the help!

Most panel contruction is done by hand feeding sheets of osb into presses. Volume is too small to really spend a lot of money for equipment.
Rough and dirty figure about $3.00 a square foot for panels (little more if you want 12 inch thick panels. Screws glue and splines are extra. Splines are a rip off. cut them yourself from osb and save a chunk. Right now the cost is $1.40 per 4 foot spline. Cut them yourself for 30 cents per spline.
Frenchy, where are you geographically? I just want to know if that $3/SqFt. means something in my neck of the woods, which is Atlanta.
Minnesota. not far from the R-control plant so I can pick up the panels myself which saves a ton of money over shipping them
