I’ve got some doug fir windows that are going to have a pine casing. Does anyone have some advice on prepping the pine in such as way as to have the doug fir and the pine match when hit with a final coat of light stain like tung oil or a polyeurathane?
Any advice is appreciated.

Is there some reason you can't use fir trim?
yes, the cost of fir is prohibitive and the door jambs are being made in pine. This is roughly $40 per door cheaper than doug fir here in the santa rosa area. -Mike
you could try mixing minwax cherry stain with puritan pine. Also try to pick out pieces of yellow pine that have more of a quartersawn grain in them, sometimes you can find pieces with a pink tint to them.
I used a stain color called Honey Maple to get pine trim to match a fir floor. I dont remember which brand. It took two or three coats to get it close. I've also had good luck mixing different stain colors and experimenting on scraps. Its good to remember that the pine will darken a bit with age.
