Hello, all
I am looking for some advice on installing stone wainscoting on a slab-on-grade foundation house. I have checked the archives and found no discussion of this. I am assuming that the lower part of the wall will go studs, sheathing, felt and then the stone wall, tied to the wall at intervals with some kind of steel strap into the mortar joints periodically. Here are my questions:
1) How often should the stone wall be tied into the stick framing? Should it be tied into studs only or is just into the sheathing acceptable? What is the best thing to use for this (some sort of Simpson product or what)? I am in seismic zone 3 (N. california).
2) The stone wall needs a foundation ledge, so I am assuming that the stick framing will be set back from the edge of the slab foundation. Is 3-1/2″ enough of a ledge? should this ledge be set down an inch or two below the rest of the slab to help shed water or should it be level with the rest of the slab? Are there any relevant flashing details that prevent rot of the sill plate?
Thanks for all the knowledge…

sami... i assume yur talkin about ((stone veneer)))and the scope of work would seem to be way beyond this discussion board..
especially with your california seismic code requirements....
there should not be much difference between stone veneer and brick veneer..
have you thot about (((cultured stone))) ?.. there was a nice article recently in FHB....
