Good Day –
I’m looking for help on a strange problem that’s happening on ome of my sheetrodking.
A few months after the job is finished and painted. some seams have 2 to 5 inch long sections that look like the mud has been forced out and left hard ridges about an eighth of an inch above the sheetrock surface. No cracks, just a raised “eruption”
tThis is random and only on a few seams. I don’t kow anything different about the areas that “erupt” and those that don’t. Its a frustrating problem that messes up an otherwise decent job.
Anyone out there have any ideas about what may be the cause? Any ideas are most appreiciated

New construction or remodel?
Sheets tight to the ceiling and tight to the floor?
Framing that has shrunk sometimes produced what you see (if I understood the problem).
or
tape lifting or "bubbles" usually along the center of the seam, sometimes as a larger bubble-othertimes not wide-more like a line.
My guess is the framing shrunk.

It's a common problem in this day of green lumber cut from second growth trees = major shrinkage. The best solution is to let the frame dry out for a year before drywalling (this is what we did while I wired the place). I fully realize that this solution doesn't suit everyone's needs, but I can attest to it's results.
I often feel sorry for the DW guys. They get blamed for all the nail pops and tape eruptions, but they were in no way responsible for the problem. I assume that most of them build all the callback time into their pricing, because it is a common problem.
And are the bad joints parallel to the studs/joists or perpendicular to them?
